Multihead Weighers, or Combination Scales are advanced pieces of machinery, mainly used within the Food Industry for food production and manufacturing.

Using a number of different heads, a multihead weigher can generate precise measurements of a product or item by calculating weights between each of it's different heads.

This is useful if, for example, you wanted to ensure that each packet of sweets that you sell has exactly 100g of sweets within them. Even if the bag contains a random selection of different sweets, it is the multihead weighers job to ensure that each bag contains the correct weight.
In order to do this the multihead weigher loads each of its scales with a small amount of sweets from a hopper above. It then decides which combination of scales produces the closest weight to the desired outcome, then it drops the sweets into the chute below, where they could then be sent to a bagging machine.

There are many different types and sizes of multihead weighers, each with their own unique advantages. Some will weigh heavier weights than others, whilst some will work better with sticky or high friction / wet items. The number of heads on the machines can also vary giving different options and advantages to the user.
