The multihead weigher is a high speed weighing machine with incredible accuracy and reliability which can almost eliminate product giveaway. These days with sky high food prices, multihead weighers can sometimes pay for themselves in a matter of months, especially with high value food stocks such as shell fish.

With such a high number of multihead weigher manufacturers these days ranging in price quite considerably it is difficult to know which manufacturer to go with, or indeed whether to take a gamble and go for a used multihead weigher instead. Having worked in the food industry and with multihead weighers for a number of years we have seen manufacturers make two fundamental errors in purchasing their combination weighing systems.

Firstly, by assuming a mulihead weigher is a multihead weigher and any machine, will weigh just about any product. Although there is some truth in this, a small weigher can in fact weigh large amounts by multi dumping but this greatly reduces the machine running speed and to a certain extent accuracy. Getting the multihead weigher best suited for your product and weight range is probably the most important factor when choosing a weighing machine. Never buy a multihead weigher without seeing it run your product at specific weights at a speed you require.

Secondly is training, it amazes us how many times we see a multihead weigher running but not set up properly for that particular product or weight. If a multihead weigher is not set up properly it loses a percentage of its efficiency and speed. Ultimately this will end up costing you money. Always insist on a comprehensive training programme for your staff when looking to purchase a multihead weigher.
